The Sizing Principle: Calipers Before Cut
Board game manufacturers operate across different global paper standards. A card advertised as standard CCG may measure 63.0 mm × 88.0 mm from one European printer and 63.5 mm × 88.9 mm from an American print run. If your card sleeves are extruded with only 0.2 mm clearance, the cards will buckle into convex arches that ruin deck shuffling.
Similarly, box inserts manufactured without accounting for 100-micron card sleeves fail instantly. A 100-card deck unsleeved measures roughly 32 mm thick. Sleeved in 100-micron archival polypropylene, that same deck expands to 68 mm thick, requiring more than double the card well depth. Our workshop measures cards with hardened digital vernier calipers under constant temperature conditions before determining tray architecture.
Below is our authoritative dimensional ledger. These specifications govern every sleeve batch and birch insert fabricated at our Portland workbench.
